E-Bay Experience

E-Bay
Thanks to Paddy in our team who sourced the Shirt that we sold on E-Bay!
My experience of selling on E-Bay was great but frustrating at times, I knew we had a great item to sell but I didnt feel that we had enough interest from buyers!
We had an Authentic Irish Jersey signed by roy Keane and Co.. at a Friendly match against Bulgaria!
I think if we had of generated enough publicity the Shirt would have gone for alot more, or maybe not.. I am not a football expert!
So to generate interest, I put loads of comments on other peoples Blogs that were associated with Ireland and Football, I also put an Ad on Classified Ads Ireland to get people interested.
I can't tell if it worked, but the shirt was finally sold for €104.84
The reserve price was €90 and we had 1 bid throughout the whole week, but on the last day we had a few bids which brought it up to the selling price. The person who bid on teh item initially, bought it in the end! He fought for it!!
This project was good and has definitley encouraged me to sell on E-Bay again!

Can cows get Sunburnt??

here is something wierd i found on my link to - i did not know that yesterday!!

'In a word, yes. A dairy specialist from Purdue University states that those familiar black-and-white Holsteins dotting the countryside are among the most likely to sunburn, particularly on the areas where their hair and skin are lighter colored. Grazing on certain plants, such as young wheat and some kinds of weeds, can increase a cow's sun sensitivity as well'

Check out the link! you might ifnd some interesting facts to feed the brain!

E-Bay

E-Bay as we all know are the leading site for online auctions! you can buy almost everything and anything you want!
however, it seems that E-Bay have now announced the end of "virtual item auctions on their site". So that means that no longer will users of video games be able to buy accounts, swords and gold for their video games to get by. why? well the area of legality has been questioned over this and a spokesman for E-Bay has said that because this area has not been defined as either illegal or legal, but it is "complex. And when something is complex like this, we have a history of disallowing the items." - Hani Durzy
The online sales of these items has estimated to be a $100million business and so the withdrawal of such sales will have an impact on thousands. In China, this type of selling is known as a cottage industry, whereby gamers work in teams, around the clock to gain personal wealth by developing these cheat methods. - (Irishblogs.ie - E-Bay category)

Web 2.0

Web 2.0. is a phrase established by O'Reilly Media, (Formerly O'Reilly Associates) an American Media company. This term refers to a medium of Second Generation Web Based Services such as Social Networking Sites, Blogs, Wikis (Wikipedia) and "folksonomies" that emphasise online sharing amongst users, such as downloading and peer to peer networks.

The term Web 2.0 does not represent an update of the World Wide Web, it is mainly a phrase to coin the different ways Web Standards are utilised.

According to Tim O'Reilly "Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform." - Web 2.o - Wikipedia

However, it has been argued as to the relevance of the phrase 2.0, as critics say that many of these standards have been available for many years now. One of these Critics is Tim Berners Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web that cites that this phrase is not a new revolution and that the term is not meaningful. - Wikipedia Web 2.0

What was predicted for E-Business??

It is interesting to look at reports from years ago, when E-Business was cited as the next big thing and its capabilities for users were endless...
This article was composed in 1999.. citing the "future of E-Busienss"...
1.E-Business will become a critical competitive strategy that will revolutionize
the global economy.
2. Companies will learn to manage customers’ relationships by virtually serving
their needs - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
3. E-business that enables customers to personalize and customize products
or services will flourish.
4. Using the Net to find new customers and to better target customer
preferences will be a standard practice.
5. Producing, marketing, and distributing products or services online will be a
cost-effective strategy for business.
6. Learning to develop and serve online communities with niche interests will be
essential to building customer loyalty.
7. E-business models that provide greater choice for customers will change the
traditional economics of supply and demand.
8. Ready access to the Net from multiple gateways—cable TV, satellite,
wireless telephones, and other devices—will greatly expand e-business
opportunities.
9. Highly efficient e-business virtual supply chains will intimately link
manufacturers and producers directly to customers.

http://http://www.futureguru.com/docs/the-future-of-e-commerce.pdf

We are now experiencing the future of the 'E-Business World', everything we do is online and we have become a knowledge based, online culture.
Businesses today cannot afford to ignore the capabilities of E-Business, it is a business opportunity rather than a technical issue.
E-Business is not just a web-site, it is not just advertising and selling over the Internet. E-Business helps companies use it is a value added tool for business, either in the form of profits or relationships with stakeholders / customers.

Therefore, a company cannot afford to ignore the capabilities of E-Business in this day and age, and their ignorance may cause them their business in the future.

Why Blog?

What is the benifit of BLOG for a business??

As we are concentrating on making blogs, I decided to do some research as to the benifits of a company writing blogs for their Products: I was bombarded with search results when I Queried "why blog?" on Google.

Blogging seems to be a new way for companies to show off their porduct knowledge and buils stronger relationships with both customers and potential customers.

  • Therefore, a company can become the leading expert on their product and position themselves as the market leader.
  • A blog objective is not to sell, but rather to give information on products and build up personal relationships with customers
  • Create Media attention, maybe the Media will actually turn to your site for advice
  • Use Blogs as workspaces, so that project workers can check updated information easily, instead of having to view email (ie-Virtualia Workspace)
  • Generate ideas and test idea's, an informal, cheap way to generate feedback on new idea's for your company and you will be assured honest answers
  • Rank High with Search Engines- As discussed in the SEO topic, in E-Business 1, a frequently updated site, that has many links and is viewed, is rewarded high with Google Search.

So where does BLOG come from?

The phrase was used first in 1999 and is today defined as a "diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page" . They are updated regualry and allow the author to discuss anything.

So before you Blog, you need to consider why you do it, we obviously do it because it is part of our course, but it has become part of internet life and is an easy way to get your views and opinions across to a very very wide audience!

In addition.. have you been wondering where you can search for Blog Topics? Google have a GOOGLE BLOG Search engine, you can search for any topics you might be interested in.

DKIT FORUM

There is a new Forum for DKIT that I think was set up recently. I had been getting emails about it on my student email but never bothered to look till now. Its pretty cool, there is a forum for buying and selling stuff, a news forum and special posts about hot topics in the college such as Clamping, and CarPooling. At the moment there doesn't seem to be many users or viewers, I think it is worthwhile for us to allhave a look at the site :

http://forums.dkit.ie/

As this is my first real blog, I thought it would be good to create awareness about something positive in our college. I see that on the 'buy and sell stuff forum' someone has a couch bed for sale and another is giving Guitar lessons, you never know this could be the new version of EBay!! (Well, I think they may need to get some more viewers and users first, but you never know!) Watch this space…
